Organic hemp seed oil – not to be confused with hemp oil – comes from cold pressing the seeds of the Cannabis Sativa plant. Unlike hemp oil, hemp seed oil doesn’t contain any cannabidiol (CBD) – the compound commonly used as pain relief and in anxiety treatment – or any tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) – the psychoactive compound that makes you feel “high”. With these compounds absent and it offering numerous benefits to the body, it’s unsurprising that it’s an increasingly popular ingredient in skincare and haircare…

  • Suitable for even sensitive skin and scalps, hemp seed oil is non-comedogenic meaning it doesn’t clog pores. We know that clogged pores can lead to sebum (the body’s natural oil) mixing with dead skin cells, dirt and built-up product, resulting in an oily scalp and restricting healthy hair growth, so it’s important that hemp seed oil doesn’t contribute to this.
  • A very nourishing oil that’s packed full of omega 3, 6 and 9 (essential fatty acids), proteins, vitamins A, C, D, E, minerals: magnesium, potassium, iron, zinc, calcium and phosphorus, it protects, moisturises and hydrates the scalp and aids cell regeneration, also supporting collagen production to help to restore dry, dull hair and promoting a happy, healthy scalp.
  • Hemp seed oil promotes blood circulation which provides the scalp and skin with the oxygen and nutrients it needs to nourish roots and hair follicles. Its nutrients – protein, vitamin A and fatty acids (gamma-linoleic acid – GLA) work to stimulate hair growth and support the reduction of hair breakage and loss, leading to longer, stronger strands.
  • We love that it’s also an anti-inflammatory which can soothe itchy scalps, reduce dryness and prevent dandruff. This is due to its vitamin E and its richness of antioxidant phytosterols which soothe and repair aggravated skin.

Organic hemp seed oil is one of the hero ingredients in our own scalp oil, with anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-bacterial Moringa seed oil, nourishing ‘Tree of Life’ Baobab seed oil, Black seed oil, strengthening Fenugreek seed oil and refreshing and stimulating Organic Rosemary leaf oil.
